We have big plans to grow, with a humble ambition to be the leading global Higher Education NGO. While that starts with scholarships, much like our scholarship recipients, our potential is limitless.

Expanding our Scholarship Reach

As ATHEFA grows, we aim to expand our scholarship reach across more of the countries and regions identified through our needs analysis. Our priority will remain supporting students to study as close to home as possible, allowing them to stay connected to their families, communities, and local development needs.

With greater funding and stronger regional partnerships, we may also support study abroad within a student’s broader geographic region where appropriate. This may include cases where suitable higher education institutions are unavailable locally, where quality degree programs in a student’s chosen field do not exist, where recent conflict has left institutions inoperable, or where local universities are too overwhelmed to provide the quality of education students need to thrive.

This regional approach allows ATHEFA to expand into higher-need or more fragile contexts without forcing students to look far beyond their communities. It keeps our model flexible, responsible, and rooted in the belief that higher education should create opportunity for students while also strengthening the places they call home.

Student Residences

ATHEFA’s loftiest goal is to help remove one of the biggest barriers to higher education: safe, affordable housing. For many students, tuition is only part of the challenge. Distance, relocation costs, housing insecurity, and cost of living can all prevent students from beginning or completing their studies.

ATHEFA residences would focus on practical, affordable, and supportive housing for students who need to relocate for higher education. This could be especially important for students from rural communities, post-conflict areas, or regions with limited local higher education options.

The goal would not be luxury accommodation, but stable housing that supports study, safety, community, and academic success. By pairing scholarships with housing support, ATHEFA could help more students access higher education and stay on track through graduation.
